Since 1999 Britney has been dazzling us with her iconic performances on MTV’s biggest night.
This past Sunday was no different. In fact, we all watched in admiration when Brit was awarded her 5th Moon Man (VMA) for “Best Pop Video” for “Till the World Ends”as well as the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at MTV’s 28th annual VMA ceremony.
Britney was dressed in sequined perfection from head to toe, especially the booty shorts that showed off just how “tight” her body has become while on her current “Femme Fatale” tour. With luminous hair, flawless makeup and an inner glow, she looked ”better than ever.”
The climax of the awards show was what I like to call the “Homage Montage.” Which featured snippets of Brits past iconic achievements all rolled into one tribute performance. During the performance Britney looked genuinely entertained and surprised.
With fans chanting “BRITNEY, BRITNEY,” Lady Gaga (dressed as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone) took the stage to present the Vanguard award to Brit. As Britney approached the podium their eyes met and with both sets of lips slightly quivering, there was a very awkward moment where I thought Gaga and Brit might kiss (a repeat of 2003 with Madonna?). Alas no, Brit broke up the awkward moment by playfully exclaiming “I’ve done that already.”
Backstage Brit announced her plans to make a video of her next single off “Femme Fatale” entitled “Criminal.” It’s a slow-paced single depicting her love for a thuggish character with her name “tatooed on his arm.” Personally, I love thuggish boys too and who wouldn’t go for a guy who brands himself with your name? LOL
Honestly, I can’t remember a VMA show before 1999 when Brit performed “Baby One More Time.” And who could forget her first Moon Man (actually 3 of them) back in 2008 and another in 2009. Actually I think that in the past 12 years the MTV Video Music Awards and the name Britney Spears have become synonymous with each other.
All of her performances have been memorable and in the end, the woman who is most frequently imitated, but never duplicated has truly “taught us all how to be fearless.”
